Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long do you need access to the room?

We will need access to the room one hour prior to the show’s start time to set-up. Students can be present during this time if the cafeteria is in use. We will need access to clean and empty tables at least 20 minutes prior to the start of the show. The program is 90 minutes long and then we will need approximately 15 – 20 minutes to pack up.

2. Who bakes the bread and how?

There are many options for baking the bread. A few lucky schools have access to ovens and can bake the bread after a morning show, however, that is not an option for most schools. During our program every child will receive a tote bag to carry their baking pan and dough home. This tote bag will have the baking directions printed on the bag so parents can bake the dough at home. For a later baking time the dough will need to be refrigerated until the end of the day. Another option for a morning show is if you are lucky enough to have a lot of volunteers, you can arrange for them to take the bread home and let it rise, bake it, and then return it back to school by the end of the day. Most ovens can easily fit six pans at a time to bake. For afternoon shows, children will simply carry their loaf of bread home in the provided bag.

3. How many students can participate at a time?

We can accommodate up to 150 students. However, having that many students at one time is a lot of work! For any groups over 120, we strongly encourage you to add an additional 15 minutes to the program. Another option would be splitting groups into two different times – we could do a morning show and an afternoon show. There is no additional charge for adding on the extra time or for doing two shows in one day.

4. What about students with food allergies?

The bread is nut, dairy, and egg free. All supplies and ingredients are prepared in a separate, designated space away from these allergens to avoid cross contamination. We also offer a gluten free option for up to six students at no additional charge for those who are gluten free for medical purposes.

5. What is involved after the show?

After a show, the paper from the tables will need to be rolled up and thrown away. Some flour may remain on the tables and benches/chairs. It is easiest to wipe that onto the floor with a dry cloth. The tables will then need to be wiped down with a damp rag and the floors swept. It is ideal to assign cleaning up to at least 2-3 volunteers and to alert the custodians so that they can provide brooms and rags.

6. Are any other resources provided to teachers?

YES!! We will email a teacher packet to you a few days prior  so that you can have supplemental activities to do the day of your show. We provide fun activities such as a word search, a bread cross-word puzzle, bread themed math problems, and writing organizers.
