What is a Loaves of Fun show?

Loaves of Fun is an exciting educational interactive in-house field trip for children in grades PreK – 6th. No need to arrange bus transportation because we transform your cafeteria (or other large room) into a bakery where students  will spend 90 minutes measuring, mixing, pouring, and working together to make their very own loaf of bread! They will follow multi-step directions and get messy along the way! We strive to fill our program with learning opportunities that fit into the social studies, math and science curriculum all the while the students are having “loaves of fun.”

For younger students, we offer a Loaves of Fun Jr. show. We will read and listen to a story about working together and the importance of teamwork. Follow step by step directions, practice reading site words, counting by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s. Even our youngest bakers will have “loaves of fun” and beam with pride over making their very own loaf of bread completely from scratch!

How does the program work?

We will arrive at your school one hour prior to show time to unload all supplies and set up the room. We ask that a few parent volunteers assist in bringing in the materials and to cover the tables. After the room is set-up, parent volunteers will then go to the classroom to assist students with washing their hands and putting on their aprons. Once the students are all seated and ready to go, the 90 minutes of fun will begin! During the program, the bread specialists will lead the students in the bread making process!

What do you need to host a Loaves of Fun bread making show?

A space large enough to accommodate all the students who will be participating in the program. Typically, we recommend the cafeteria or multipurpose room. We can set up in any room that is large enough to have tables for all participants and space for teachers/volunteers to walk around to assist students and pass out supplies.

Enough tables that allow the students space to work. When using the standard 12’ cafeteria tables, we can comfortably seat 12 students per table. It is best if students also have a bench or chair so they can remain seated during the program.

At least one adult per 12 students

A positive attitude and ready to have “loaves of fun!”

What do we provide?

Everything else!  All ingredients and supplies are included! We even bring paper to cover your tables!

How much does the program cost?

The cost is $11 per child. This fee covers the 90 minute program and all ingredients and supplies, including an apron and bag to carry home their loaf of bread.

Kristin Brown

“Hello! My name is Kristin Brown. After spending many years as an elementary school classroom teacher, I am now the proud co-owner of “Loaves of Fun”, along with Lauren Fitzgerald. I was born and raised in New Jersey and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Loyola University, Maryland. My husband of 23 years and son, Logan, settled in Frederick, MD where I taught third grade at St. John’s Regional Catholic School. After spending some time away from the classroom to serve the PTA and volunteer at Logan’s school, I later became a substitute teacher for FCPS. I am certified to teach grades Pre-K thru 8th and have experience with all grade levels. When I’m not cleaning up dog hair off the couch or my clothes (Otto and Gryffin are our two fur babies), I enjoy spending time at the Jersey Shore with my family and friends, reading, cooking, decorating and reality TV. I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to bring this unique bread baking program to schools in the DMV area. This next adventure will allow “Loaves of Fun” to connect with children of all ages in a unique way; incorporating and enriching classroom lessons taught in math, science, language arts and social studies. This one-of-a-kind, hands-on, interactive bread baking experience is sure to be a field trip to remember!”

Lauren Fitzgerald

“Hi my name is Lauren Fitzgerald! I am excited to begin this new adventure of being a co-owner of Loaves of Fun with Kristin Brown. I have enjoyed spending many years in an elementary school classroom and am eager to expand my teaching role to working with students and teachers in this new endeavor. I am a graduate of Radford University with my BS in Communications. After graduation, I worked in numerous trade associations in their communications departments. After leaving my job in communications to focus on my family, I volunteered with numerous children’s organizations. I was a girl scout leader for many years, served on the PTA at our local elementary school in various board positions and then began substitute teaching. I have taught many different grade levels, as well as special education and intervention roles. I was born and raised in Maryland and currently live in Frederick, MD with my husband of 21 years. I have three daughters who keep me busy attending all of their activities. You will most likely see me cheering on our daughters every weekend at either a swim meet, a softball game, on the track or at the golf course! Not to be left out, I also have two dogs to complete our family. In my downtime, I enjoy hanging out with friends, reading and watching reality TV!”
